hello all! my name is Bobbi, and I am a writer, and if you think that sounds amazingly like the greeting from a AA meeting, then boy are you right!

Writing is a drug to me, I find myself at the advanced age of 4* (you don't need to know exactly how old I am) writing at odd times of the day and odd feelings. I have been writing for many many years and finally find myself the proud mother of an adult novel. called Morigana's Children several short stories and a nice little book of poetry. However, I have no idea exactly how to proceed to get this wonderful (in my humble opinion) work out there. Truthfully I have written a 130,000 word or so albatross and I need help in figuring out query letters and the dreaded synopsis that doesn't consist of six pages. do I really need to rewrite a 406 page novel into five paragraphs? bounce bounce

Luckily, I have a support network that thinks I am a wonderful writer. but I can always use some help

so I look forward to checking in here and posting when something is truly stopping me.

thanks for your consideration

Bobbi M

Hi Bobbi,
Wow you are at the end of a process I am just starting. Don't worry, it is possible to summarise a book into one paragraph, or even one sentence; you could imagine that you are writing a newspaper article about your work, or the blurb on the back of the book! You could post the summary on the boards for us to read. I have no experience about publishing, but I'm sure there's people here who can help. Good luck!

I only wish I were that far myself. I finished my first draft at 100,000 but could not figure out why the editing was so difficult (beyond regular editing). I finally figured out what was wrong... While I can write quite well, I'd never had to worry about things like plot and villains before.

I had written it as a young adult fantasy, but now, I'm starting over from the beginning with it, this time with full planning for plot, character info, and at least a modicum of worldbuilding behind me.

I haven't gone through the process of submission before, but I would suggest looking on each companies website to see what their submission guidelines are. Some companies don't mind receiving entries via email as well.

Hopefully, I'll be able to start editing my work as well soon.

What is your book about? The name in and of itself interests me!

Oh, and before I forget, Welcome to the board! lol!

ah Kit,

the submission part or world building (thanks to a meticulous brother who happens to be a history teacher, but won't read the novel) I have done extensive research into my time period as well as both the Irish and Romany languages. I know how to submit, what I can't do is try and effectively (and briefly) explain my book. the plot is complicated to tell in short form without completely losing the intended audience. my Alpha readers for the most part loved it, and the parts they didn't love gently (most of the time) told me it didn't work, (when they weren't gentle it was a blunt, "well THAT sucked" but luckily I think it only happened once.) as far as my beta readers, well, none of them have gotten back to me, but since I picked four of the busiest people I know I'm disappointed but not surprised. so if someone out there would like to be a beta reader, just let me know!

I guess I would suggest looking at the theme of your book and writing down in one line what the base plotline is. Expounding from there would help me, but I've gotten to the point where that base point is how I begin writing, so I haven't really tried to start with the book written and go back from there.

A perplexing problem. Perhaps if you asked your Alpha or Beta readers to give you what they thought your plot boiled down to would help give you a different perspective on it. Hopefully by seeing what they thought about it, you'll be better able to shrink it down without feeling like you're loosing too much of the story.
